Waiting From A Distance

CastingRehearsals for Departure Lounge at SPF begin in four days. The cast are assembled. I’m pinching myself but apparently they really did say yes. The set designs look amazing. Apparently Gillian my line producer is personally guarding the set model like a rottweiller, not letting ANYONE see. I have an incredible team working on the show headed by a TONY (Tony Tony Tony) nominated director. I am living a writers dream. What’s not to like? Well, I’m stuck here in the UK and don’t arrive for another 10 days. Gutted, I’m also missing the launch party.
It’s not all bad, the weather here is pushing 30 degrees (that’s 86 in US money) and Andy Murray is in the Semi Finals of Wimbledon. Come on the Brits! Oops his opponent is American (Roddick). Come on the Yanks! Who am I kidding no one cares about tennis on Broadway do they? Do they?
Anyway, thank God for skype, which has made the whole thing possible. The SPF team have done amazingly; conducting the auditions and all the multitude of meetings while still managing to keep me in the loop. It’s such a gift, this whole festival. We have nothing like it in the UK, well not yet anyway. Until I arrive stateside I will just have to keep pinching myself to remember that it’s all really happening. Looking forward to more emails and skype chats either before 8am or after 8pm BST. Bring on the rehearsals!
