A load off in the rain….

Rehearsals / New York
I’ve been working on Departure Lounge off and on for quite a few years now. You know how it is. Play gets done. People get excited. Play sits on shelf for years, gets done again at fringe festival. More people get excited. Play moves to off Broadway….
So I thought I knew my baby pretty well, warts and all. But I had the weird experience this week of putting a new song into the show in a place I had not originally envisagedit going. Also I was playing guitar during the rehearsal while it was set, so wasn’t able to really tell how it was going. My baby was flying solo without me. And it worked, I think. And I had this weird feeling of….relaxing, something I don’t do easily and I realised I don’t have to drive things like on every other production of Departure Lounge. It makes such a difference, but we’re almost at the stage where I can walk away and it will stand up without me, which is a massive burden off my back. The team on my show are absolute mustard. That’s the gift of SPF. The load is off.
Also, it rained heavily on Tuesday which was lovely as I was feeling homesick.
