    Production / Performances

I'd like to thank Stafford Arima, for being the best director, leader, and friend a playwright could ask for; for helping to make Esther Demsack as good a play as it can be, and for making this production as proper, professional, and polished as I could have ever hoped possible.

  • Another Opening Another Show

So, the first performance has happened, I'm still in one piece (sort of), but our leading lady's finger is not.  Well, it is, but she has a big gash in it from the heretofore unbreakable plate that broke last night, and she's been in the emergency room all day.  Ever the trooper though, Marin Hinkle will perform tonight!  They are all troopers, my cast, they and our designers have done me and my play proud and I couldn't feel luckier to have them.  I am also pleased to report that the two ladies who inspired the characters of Elaine and Rema saw the show last night and loved it.  The real Elaine talked up such a storm to anyone in sight that she gave me enough material for a whole other play.

  • Journey

By Billy Finnegan on July 1, 2008 at 1:36 AM

Well, this is going to be a short blog post because rehearsals are upon me and I can't focus.  There's a big buzz word in the theater.  That buzz word is "journey."   As I prepare to take this journey with my cast, crew and director through the world of Esther Demsack, I'm reminded of all the journeys that have come before us.  I'm reminded, in particular, of one such journey, quite a special one, in fact.  Perhaps you've heard of it, perhaps not.  In case you haven't, or in case you just want to live it again, search the words "Tomlin," "Russell" and "Huckabee" on youtube.  That's some journey!  July 15 or bust!  See you on the other side!

  • The Call of the Blog

I forgot I was supposed to blog today.  I wasn't sure it was a weekly thing.  I thought it was, but then I somehow decided to convince myself it wasn't.  So now my blog is late.  I feel bad.  Please forgive.

Today, team Esther spoke to the Summer Play Festival interns, which was fun for us and hopefully informative for the interns.  I'm not totally comfortable addressing large groups, or even small groups.  I also have this weird thing that happens when I speak about something that's personal or important to me, or as it was in this case, both:  I get butterflies in my stomach.
