• Keep NY on my Desk

Well I'm back in the depths of an Australian country winter after spending a glorious three and a half weeks in NYC. The run of TENDER went really well, it was great to see how the play shifted in response to the audience over the course of the week. I feel very fortunate to have met the talented and generous people I met in New York, and thanks to the wonders of modern technology we're not so far apart at all. My first New York visitors arrive in a little over four weeks!

New York has wormed its way into my heart and I am sure I'll be back in the not-too distant future. I have a special memento from my time in New York on my desk, a gift from one of my actors, a 'New-York-In-An-Apple' and as I look at it I imagine you all peopling the buildings and the streets, and you're there but here, it's then but now, and everything is in order.

    Thank you for everything.

    Rehearsals / New York

We’re nearing the end of our rehearsal time for Tender, which is in the one breath terrifying and exhilarating. Looking forward to being in the theatre next week! We’re all in intense rehearsal mode at the moment – staying up late thinking about the play and waking up early . . . yes . . . still thinking about the play.

I feel as though I’ve been in New York for months. Walking around the streets I seem to be constantly running into people I know. Yes these streets are in a 200m radius of The Public Theater, but still. I am floored by the inclusiveness of the community over here. And I have finally managed to find some decent coffee…

Production / Rehearsals / New York

So. Four days of rehearsals down, jetlag almost disappeared and I’ve begun to believe that perhaps I am actually in New York, and the play will actually be opening in a week and a half. Has been wonderful to meet and work with the cast, crew and creatives, and glean new and sometimes surprising insights to the play I know (or thought I knew?) inside out.
