After a very long day.... two shows, a talkback and a photo shoot.... the cast of Departure Lounge performed at Composer Exposure 2009 last night.  I accompanied them with my friend Micah.  You can see Adam Feldman, Time Out New York Theatre Critic, watching us.  He hosted the evening.  Check out a clip:

    Performances / New York

So, the show’s been open for a couple of nights and already the end is in sight.  Can’t quite believe where the times gone. There are many things I thought I would do on this trip, few of which I will probably achieve. Oh well. Just have to come back then.

I’ve been surprised and very happy with how audiences have taken to Departure Lounge. I genuinely had no idea how Americans would relate to what is a specific aspect of British culture, but people keep telling me they find the boys charming and universally appealing! Amazing how far a few jokes about a potato will get you…

    Rehearsals / New York

I’ve been working on Departure Lounge off and on for quite a few years now. You know how it is. Play gets done. People get excited. Play sits on shelf for years, gets done again at fringe festival. More people get excited. Play moves to off Broadway….

    Rehearsals / New York

Day five in NY. Jet lag pretty much gone, although I thought I was doing better than I was earlier in the week so went out till 12am, then woke up still on English time 3 hours later. Silly boy!

So what’s been happening. It may be a bit of a cliché and I may say it a few more times in my blogs but I’m literally living a writers dream at the moment. The team working on my show are simply unbelievable, I’m bouncing into work each day and leaving with a massive grin on my face. I’m also still laughing at the jokes, which is a good sign, and also a mark of my immaturity!
