John Weidman has written the books for a variety of musicals, including Pacific Overtures (Tony nomination, Best Book) and Assassins (2004 Tony Award, Best Musical Revival), scores by Stephen Sondheim; Contact (Tony nomination, Best Book; Tony Award, Best Musical), co-created with choreographer/director Susan Stroman; Big (Tony nomination, Best Book), score by Richard Maltby, Jr. and David Shire; and the new book, co-authored with Timothy Crouse, for Lincoln Center Theater’s revival of Cole Porter’s Anything Goes (Tony Award, Best Musical Revival; Olivier Award, Best Musical Production). He is currently writing the books for Take Flight, score by Richard Maltby, Jr. and David Shire, which had its premiere in the summer of 2007 at the Chocolate Factory in London; Road Show, score by Stephen Sondheim, which opened at the Public Theater in the fall of 2008; and Happiness, score by Scott Frankel and Michael Korie, directed by Susan Stroman, which will premiered at Lincoln Center Theater in the spring of 2009. Since his children were little, he has written for Sesame Street, receiving twelve Emmy Awards for Outstanding Writing for a Children’s Program. Weidman is President of the Dramatists’ Guild of America.
