Sheila Nevins

Sheila Nevins is president of HBO Documentary Films for Home Box Office, responsible for overseeing the development and production of all documentaries programming for HBO and Cinemax and their multiplex channels. During her tenure, HBO’s critically acclaimed documentary and family programs have won numerous awards. She has received 22 Prime Time Emmy Awards, 25 News and Documentary Emmys and 28 George Foster Peabody Awards. She has supervised and assigned projects to filmmakers that have gone on to win 19 Academy Awards. Nevins has been honored with several career achievement awards, including a 2005 Emmy Lifetime Achievement Award for her contributions to the art of the documentary, the first time the National Television Academy has awarded Lifetime Achievement recognition to a documentarian. She has received a Lucy Award from Women In Film for her outstanding achievements in advancing documentary filmmaking; the Humanitarian Award from the National Board of Review for her contribution to the advancement of social reforms and the promotion of human welfare through film; Nevins was inducted into Broadcasting & Cable’s Hall of Fame and NATAS’ Silver Circle and in 1999 was presented with a Personal Peabody in recognitions of her work and ongoing commitment to excellence. For the past four consecutive years, she was named one of The Hollywood Reporter’s Top 50 Women in Hollywood. Nevins holds a BA from Barnard College and an MFA from Yale University School of Drama.
